Training Attendance Recommendations
PTSC does not have a minimum training attendance requirement to meet to retain membership within a training group. One of the considerations that coaches will discuss about athletes moving up training groups will be training attendance. This is to ensure that the athlete is ready for the commitment and training requirements of the more advanced group.
The general rule of thumb is that the more training that an athlete attends, the more opportunity that the athlete will have to improve over the course of the swimming year and in subsequent years of swimming. There is no shortcut to improvement, work works. The following are the recommendations from the coaching staff on training attendance:
Senior: 7-8 of 9 sessions/week
Junior: 4 of 5 sessions/week
Academy : 2 of 3 sessions/week
Training Calendars & Cancellation of Training Procedures
All training calendars will be posted on the club website (link here) and are reference and planning purposes. At the beginning of each month, the “final” version of the calendar will be emailed to all families and at that time should be used to determine if there is training or not.
In the event a training session needs to be cancelled, communication will come from the coaching staff via email and posted on the website and social media sites. In the winter: the general rule of thumb is if Pike Schools close, then no training sessions will be available. If unsure, always check email before coming up to the Pike Aquatic Center.
Championship Meet Participation Policy for Athletes
Swimmers with Championship Meet Cuts (Divisionals, State, Nationals, etc.) and/or Relay eligible participants are expected to attend those Championship Meets and represent PTSC. You must meet training sessions attendance expectations (over 80%) in order to participate in Championship Meets. Final decisions in participation (including relays) will be made by the Head Coach.
